Trying to Motivate Very Unmotivated students

Hi, I'm an English teacher in Ecuador and I volunteer at a high school where I co-teach with an Ecuadorian English teacher.  In some of the classes, we have students that don't want to learn English.  Most of them still don't see the importance of learning the language and think that it will be useless for them.  Most of them say "well, I'm going to stay in this small town forever, so I won't need it" or "I will never have enough money to travel abroad and speak the language, so what is the…See More

6th Grade Musical Review- game for the last week of lessons

I made a review game my 6th grade classes from lessons 1 thru 8 ("Where Are You From?" thru "What Will You Do This Summer?") and I need some opinions about this game. IIn this game, the class will be divided into six groups of 4 to 5 people per group. There will be a bag with some cards in it and the class will pass this bag around while a song is playing.  Once the song stops, the person with the bag will take out one card and ask another group a question.  If the other group answers the…See More

Hi Manisha,
I like Kungfu Panda, but last week I didn't want to hear the word "fight" again.
I teach at a middle school in Seoul. Last week there was a story on the news about two teenage girls who committed suicide because they couldn't stand being threatened and beat up anymore after school.
I don't think Kung Fu Panda is violent and I don't think that showing it will make kids more violent or stop showing it would make kids less violent.
It's just that I felt strange showing the video on the day the kids were demonstrating against violence in the school.
Don't get me wrong, Kung Fu Panda is cool and I actually tried this in a lesson this week. It worked well.
