Karaoke: Just do it!

Posted on March 18, 2008 at 6:00am 2 Comments

All EFL teachers need to love songs and chants: they work, they're fun, and it's such an easy wage to engage!

I've got a resource page up for many things including karaoke files supported by the Karafun program: .kfn format. You can check the site here: ICnelly's Resource Page

And, I've just started a Youtube channel for English Karaoke. Since i'm a dedicated elementary teacher, the majority of my files are definitely geared… Continue

Classroom Activities: warm ups

Posted on October 24, 2007 at 4:04am 0 Comments

Lately, I've been having some problems with attention, and I figured I needed to change things up a little. So I started thinking about ways to change the warm up activity. I thought of short readings with CCQs, or vocabulary exercises , and also just karaoke listening files and questions. I tried a .kfn file today about Canada and America, and it went over well in my 5th and 6th grade classes.

I know a warm up is supposed to be an entrance activity, but should it always be active?…

Activities around the classroom: functional decorating

Posted on October 6, 2007 at 1:48pm 1 Comment

This came up in the blog about teaching classrooms with 40 students, and I, having just finished putting all my ideas together, thought it would be a good idea to start a new post and offer some of my own activities. The reasons why I decided to start decorating my classroom:

1. It was sparse to begin with and was just way to beige!

2. I wanted to give the students things to do in their own spare time.

3. I wanted to start using them as alternatives to punishments: just…

Do you have tabs for your Korean elementary songs? My coteachers really love to use them in the classroom and, as we have an open class coming up, my grade six coteacher wants to learn to play the "Does your father work?" song. (Apologies if there are tabs up on this site - I just joined and haven't figured out where everything is yet.)

Thank you for making the songs and videos! They are far more fun for my kids than the standard CD versions and in many cases are just plain better for learning the lessons (more variations on the key phrases, etc).
