Connecting students around the globe

Posted on June 3, 2008 at 7:14am 0 Comments

I have a vision where students connect with their peers from around the world. Why? Because it's interesting. It's challenging to create global friendships, across cultures and across seas. And it's interesting to learn what other are studying. Even the very precise studies, like math, are not exact all over the world. Sometimes you need help figuring out a problem and someone from across the world, who studied it in a different way, will offer that different angle that opens your eyes. This is… Continue

Hi Or-Tal,

Thanks for the message, I like that map of yours above too!

Did you see the Ning Tricks of the Trade thread I mentioned to you last time. It tells you how to make extra pages and there you can put extra content. I learnt a lot through searching and visiting Ning Network Creators and the discussions there. Basically self taught and if you can invest the time, you can easily learn. But there is a lot of time to be spent and people don't really see all the time I've took to get the content on here and upkeep.

About promotion -- briefly I have done almost zero promotion but DID do two things. One, visit places around the web where I thought my target audience was. Mostly other forums. I contributed much and left my website address ALWAYS as part of my signature. Same for my email address. Facebook and Youtube are two places that are huge and bring people if you just use a signature. Also, Classroom 2.0 on Ning, as you know. Further, I made business cards and use them at conferences and use my signature always in my emails.... Word of mouth can get around quickly, if you have something to provide to people...

Also, just visiting other blogs helps and posting comments with your signature. Make content which is on public sites helps and brands your name. They use the content - like the karaoke or youtube songs here and then will / might join.

Unfortunately, there is no big secret. Just good product, good attitude and promoting wherever you go..I do hope after the summer to do some real promotion :) This first year until August has just been dedicated to getting things started....

Sorry I haven't had a lot of time to visit Kids4kids....I hope too shortly. I'm sure you understand how a teacher's life is.....:)

Take care, shalom and more later....

Hi Or-Tal,

So glad you made it here! I'm sure you are busy as anything but I'm also sure that you'll find something here either to inspire you or to be of direct use....Did Skip ever help you with your own business project? If I can be of any help, just shoot me a quick message.....

I like the rss from your blog and got to tell more members to do this! I'll be sure to get your blog into our member's directly shortly...... I"m thinking of adding a wiki for members here and every member could have countless pages, along with more public/private control of their page and content. coming shortly....just working on the SHARING page/concept at the moment....

Here's the regular Welcome message, shalom,

David
