The chaos begins (NOT) - jumping into the deep end with my ESL students

Well we're taking the journey further into the world of Ning in my class.

Today we went through some different features of our class Ning and we jointly composed a response to a Forum topic and a Blog post (before I deleted it when I accidentally pressed backspace - Memo to self - teach students about saving drafts). The shared writing gave them a much needed foundation. It seemed to help them when they were in the computer lab.

As they're learning so many new multimedia… Continue

Vacation Sans Japan

Vacation Sans Japan

Last night I went out for Bok-ah. Prehaps you know it as Fugu? Still no? Try globefish, blowfish, or puffer fish. Puffer fish made out of poison. Prehaps you remember that early and famous Simpson's episode where homer almost dies from eating it. Eating the blood, organs or ovaries of the fish can cause…

The Ning adventure begins in my class - Can you join us?

This week I started using a Ning network with my English as a Second Language class.

It's an exciting, challenging time for me working with a group of students with vastly differing levels of ICT knowledge. Some have studied in the field while others have had very little experience with computers.

My big lesson this week is Model, model, model and small, small, small. In the excitement of it all, I think I tried to get too many things going on the Ning… Continue

EPIK Justino vs. YouTube Ad Attack

So I have a new found hobby. I like to do a little detective work and root out corporate ads on the front page of YouTube that try to pretend to to be a grassroots video like most of the videos on YouTube. One of the ones that I found about a week ago is actually attached to an account that belongs to a fashion magizine named Nylon. It turns out that not only is…

MLK Day

Martin Luther King Day struck a special signifigance within me now that I am an American living abroad. Not out of any preticular longing for my home country, but because I am proud to count such a leader as an American. As I travel more and more and get elbow deep in the world, it is the hope of his message that help put prespective…

Classes over and English Camp Video

So I have been busy lately. Although I have only had about 2 hours of classes a day, I have been filling the time with hiking, reading, and hanging out with other expats.

This week I am going to try and go to Danyang with my coworker Yung Su. It will be fun to hang out outside of work. We just completed another English Camp. I have been trying to make a video of it all day, but problems have caused me to have to make it from scratch three different times. Anyways I thought that it… Continue

Stuff

Just had the spiciest bowl of ramen that i have ever had. Koreans like thier "Ramyen" spicey but that was out of control... it was good though. Ramen is a cheap ($2.50) and quick meal that you can get at a number of places within your average block.

I scolded some students for the first time today. I didnt really care for it and it really felt like talking to a walk. Actually it was talking to a wall for the one, the other one cried. This is part of my new intiative to get control of…

Best of 2007

I am sick of those forms that get sent out over Myspace, LJ, and Facebook that are basically chain letters/surveys that ask about the past year. They usually ask things like: Best Moment or what not. This year I am present I own "Best of" list". I think I earned it as it has been a remarkable year. Over the next couple of days I list the best of various categories that matter to me with a number one and two runner ups. I would encourage others to do the same. It is very important to note that… Continue
