SEN Teacher Printables

Sen Teacher is the bomb! The last few years I've been acquainting myself with special education and also finding that so many special ed. techniques/tools/methods really work well with language learning. Same with websites, they offer a plethora of resources for use in our classroom. Sen Teacher does too!

Cultural Crossing

As an EFL teacher, many us are nomadic and spending time in many different cultures/countries - either teaching or traveling. Culture Crossing is the perfect site to get info. on the cultural differences of your next home or destination! It is really accessible with nice easy map navigation. Nat. Film Board of Canada - a treasure trove of authentic video material

We now have all the best NFB Video shorts!

I love the National Film Board of Canada and I've previously highlighted their fine videos and especially animations - for use in the classroom (or just enjoyment!).

So I'm tooting our own horn here -- I've made a page of what I… Continue

Wordia - words brought to life

I'm not a big fan of focusing on words. I'm more a "big picture guy" or for that matter a, "top down person".... However, Wordia, has some great UCC (user created content), videos about many words. You can find a word and listen to someone talk about it. (and this is probably where students will learn the most English!). It is great content for authentic English and I was impressed by the majority of the videos.

I think this sort of idea… Continue

Kindersay - Young Learner Vocabulary

Kindersay is a nicely styled package of vocabulary with audio. It got my #1 young learner vocabulary site nomination.

All the basic vocabulary is there for students and I really like how you can see visually, the person pronounce the words. This is so important for learning language, online or off. Just seeing the face and how the face/mouth acts. Language is not only sound and fury!

Check it… Continue

Watch - Learn : Great videos

I'm a big fan of video for engaging our learners, especially because so many are "imaginators" or visual learners.

Watch/Know is a wonderful new video site for teachers. Simple and it shares my own philosophy with its "Let's Make Great Teaching Free for All" motto.

There, you can browse a large directory of mostly youtube videos, organized by subject. The ESL part is pretty skimpy but there rest of the language…

Kizclub - a great site for materials

Kizclub (don't get it confused with "Kids Club" like I do!) is a Korean site that my students - both graduate and certificate went gaga over.

I really like it too. It offers basic materials that are infinitely adaptable for teachers - on a wide variety of vocabulary selections. Most of the materials target young learners. All or most in nice pdf (printables) that you can cut/paste and use to supplement lessons. Perfect for teacher…

Learn Free - a great resource

Learn Free is a great site for your students to visit and get "practical" lessons focused on the language they will use in daily life. It is very attractively designed and has a series of modules with audio and interactive (flash) exercises. Extremely easy to use, userfriendly. The site will keep track of the lessons you've completed and the use of audio is a great feature.

You have to register but it takes… Continue

USA Learns - adults learn English through video

USA Learns is a site of extremes. IMO, It is probably one of the best places for adults to "self-study" and get good audio and topic friendly content. (it made my lit of TOP Websites for ELT). The lessons are all free (THANK YOU!) and with good quality… Continue

School Tube

I have rued and really disowned myself from TeacherTube. For many reasons, many highlighted here on The Tech Saavy Educator. I fully agree. Avoid them these days....

School Tube is a fresh alternative. Really neat collection of videos and a nice, quicker and non commercial interface. Not blocked at schools. Here's an example, a… Continue

Bubble Joy and video emailing

Bubblejoy is a fantastic way to email a quick video. Students can use it and email you as they speak about a topic. Or they can email each other. If you need more than 1 min - you can also use the TEFList Recorder, another very simple way to video email! This is a powerful tool for online language learning/practice.

Chose from many nice "frames".…

Metro Newspaper "free" online!

Today, I'm in Vancouver and gorging on newspapers and English reading. One item I read was the Metro newspaper and I got to thinking of times I've used it in my own teaching.

The Metro newspaper is a real newspaper, an authentic material (and read my comprehensive post on authentic materials in the EFL…

Embed Anything with embedit.in!

What you see below is the website Embedit, embeded! How's that for a double entendre?!

It is a great site where you can upload a document - power point, word, pdf, photo (no video or audio though). So you can upload what you use in class and embed it on your webpage for student viewing. A nice way to both present a resource and store it.

It offers a lot of cool customization. Change the background color,…

Tutput - Get your students competing!

Tutpup is a new game site which just does things "simply"! I love simple (like Thoreau) and I applaud the very basic nature of this site. It is mostly geared to young learners but all can benefit.

What is it? Well, students compete against those from other countries (I was playing level 4 against someone from China - I won! Yeah, I'm a native speaker, go figure!). Students… Continue
