About

Hi, finally Chinese internet access has slackened a little and I'm able to join this fantastic site... my eyes are going bleary after reading so many blogs and forum postings.

As a teacher with 3yrs experience I am developing my practices with an aim towards full utilisation web technologies for teaching purposes.

At the minute I am using Google's new app - WAVE - with my students (only 8 students, intermediate standard, college age).  I have so far used three waves in an attempt to motivate them to use English outside the classroom.  We are creating a story collaboratively, correcting each others homework (anonymously so as not to embarrass), and we are brightening up bland writing with adverbs, similes, metaphors and anything else they can (or want to know how to) use.

Has anyone else used Wave for teaching?  Have you got any good ideas that can be incorporated into a Wave?  Have you used the widgets, or can you design a widget for use in ELT?

Any feedback, direction, or assistance will be gratefully received.
Tim

Wish I did have some experience with that, Tim... have you tried over at Classroom 2.0?

Of course, there might be some members here, too, who are using it!

I am so glad that Chinese internet access is loosening a bit... it's good to hear : )
Tim,

I have started using wave but really gave up after not having the time to really spend learning it. That to me is a problem with students too, the learning curve. But if you have really tech saavy students it could work.

My rule about online learning is that it must be super simple. Almost idiot proof for the users/learners side. Have you checked out Tarheel Reader or maybe Storybird? There are a lot of writing applications online that offer amazing content but are sharable for a group and have pics for context. Just an idea.

Ellen's idea of asking on Classroom 2.0 is good. also, do you have twitter? We have a large group of ELT people there and many have experience with using Wave. My id is "ddeubel".
Hi,
thanks for both comments.
I'll check the links you have given me... thank you... and I have visited Classroom 2.0 and lined up a couple of blogs I want to read...
Unfortunately, being in China, I'm still blocked from using twitter and facebook. :-(
