How does implementation help you out throughout the year? I am curious to know what things have worked for you and what things have not worked for you through an implementation standard.  Continue

Today's lesson activity has to do with "wishing". Practice beforehand the proper grammatical form of stating wishes. Then maybe tell the 3 genie joke as outlined in the handout --- marooned on an island each wishes to be home, the last wishes they'd come back, he's lonely!.  Here it is in presentation.

Once you've covered that, play the LIE game.

1. Write down 4 wishes on the board, one is a lie and the students guess which one is the lie. Use this form;

A) I wish I had ....................

B) I wish I could .....................

C) I wish I were .......................... er / more ....

D  I wish I had (n't) ....................... (regret)

2. Students do the same and others try to guess which is their lie.

3. Handout the cards and tell them they are genies but with only the powers on the cards. They walk around the class trying to get their wishes granted!

Really fun, read in detail on the handout below. Thanks to Jill Hadfield and her great set of Communication Games for the inspiration for this activity which I modified. Have fun wishing!

Get the game cards, handouts, instructions and additional worksheets for "wish" attached.

thanks for the great resources..
this is very much appreciated
keep up the good work ^^
How long would you say this lesson takes?

This can actually take a lot more time than you think. However it all depends on how you do it.

More time if you do it whole class and ask everyone to listen and guess for each person. (40 min) Less time if they just do it in small groups, one person reading and others guessing. (20 min) . The suggested times are dependent on how many people in the whole class...

This is a great video to introduce the wish game or a lesson about "wishes".

 Commercial w

ith Charles Barkley.

Students listen once or multiple times and check what Charles said he wished for. Take up by having students make statements about Charles' wishes.

Here is a nice ppt to introduce the 3 wishes game.

Also some worksheets about "wish".
