Collocations are an important aspect of vocabulary teaching. Simply, 2 or more words that often go together - phrases, expressions, binomials, idioms, formulaic speech.  Lexical bundles or chunks.  Here is a nice article highlighting their importance in a language.

Here are a whole pile of worksheets to use and get students focusing on collocations.

Read all the books related to main collocations on Gif Lingua - each with a flashcard set and video lessons (hit "Settings" then "Study" on the main page of any book).

Try this BBC quiz of 109 common collocations.

Study collocations with our "gif" Quizlet sets. So many great sets for study.

Words is probably the most popular lesson about collocations and its an amazing video!  See the lesson materials and video HERE. A MUST resource. Also see the ppt there all about collocations.

Here is a handy few exercises to practice collocations related to money.

Free.  Lots of related collocations.  Go here for a presentation.

See the attached Worksheet and ppt to present all the ways "free" can be used in speech.

Here are some nice lists of all the major and main collocations. Students can write some practice sentences under each chart or use in class for speaking and making sentences.

Here are some more worksheets for all the main verbs that form common collocations.  Do, Make, Get, Set, Put, Take ....

This presentation is the bomb!  Took me 20 hours to make but hope it will help. It's an example of a Premium product you can purchase to help support our costs. But this one is FREE!

Present the collocation and get students to brainstorm sentences or write sentences for the collocation.

Next, have students write down and complete the sentences

Finally, take up and then get students to read the book online with collocation examples (click the icon for each collocation.

This ppt is a non internet version useful with our very popular lesson - Words. Get the lesson through this link.

Students watch and list all the collocations possible for the main verb. Pretty easy but not so easy! But your students will love the challenge.    View the online presentation.
