Most of the time, I do a "foldem" lyric sheet. The student folds the sheet "hotdog" style. Fills in the left and after, checks the answers while listening again.....

This song almost all students will know - Carlos Santana - Smooth.

Learn the song and all about this famous musician. Students can read the book on Gif Lingua. Teachers - register and get extra teaching materials for this lesson.

Do you really think almost all will know it?

Within reason. We'll have to do a survey and play it and see if they've heard it before. The tune itself is pretty damn iconic through commercials, tv, movies etc ...

Hm.  I like Santana but had never heard the song.  I don't watch tv and apparently the occasional movie is not that kind.  Maybe I'll check with my students here in Kazakhstan.

A standard song for teaching reflexive verbs.  "self" and alone / on ... own.   Eric Carmen, All By Myself.

See a good number of books on this subject, on Gif Lingua. Click Grammar. Here's one.

A nice listening lyric sheet for a popular song - Paradise by ColdPlay.

Here are a couple of lyric listening sheets for the Katy Perry song - Hot n Cold.

Students can read and study the book "Hot Or Cold" on Gif Lingua.Teachers registerto get additional worksheets for this topic.

A really cool song and example of kinetic typography music video - Ok It's Alright With Me.

Use with the attached Lyric Listening foldem sheet. Students fold hotdog style and complete as they listen. Then unfold and view the answers.

Get more examples of cool  Kinetic Typography on this page.   Download the video for offline use.

Take On Me - by Norwegian band A - Ha  was a huge song. Nice cartoon lyrics your students will enjoy.

See the original video HERE. Also the fun literal version.

This is a slower version just released. Unplugged. Very good for listening practice for intermediate level students.

Students can also study the vocabulary and read the book on Gif Lingua.

I am a native speaker of English, and I do not understand this song.  What does the title mean?  The meaning I know for 'take on so' is adversarial -- and in that sense a pronoun would be placed between 'take' and 'on.'

I believe the meaning is "to take on" -  suggesting that the woman try him out and begin a relationship with him.....

Same meaning with "take me on"  (actually a good example of how some phrasal verbs can be split.

Walking on sunshine is a super song!  here is a nice listening sheet for it. Get students talking about what makes them truly feel good!

Maybe try this Gif Lingua Book.
