Here is a Powerpoint Presentation about the history and meaning of Thanksgiving. It was made with Korean Middle school students in mind. I intend to give the kids a quiz after doing the presentation.

Hope others find it useful!

Also find many more Thanksgiving and November Resources HERE.     This video and quiz is cool too.

I just thought I would say thank you for the presentation. I used it and followed it with a couple of worksheets I made. It worked great for my 3rd and 1st grade middle schoolers.

Thanks Brandon :)
Any chance of posting your worksheets?
Here is a crossword I made to go with the ppt.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Here is the worksheet I made. It's not great, but it worked for my classes. I also put the answers to the worksheet into ppt. I didn't do it as fancy as yours but take a look.
great PPT...I wish I had seen it a week ago, cause I guess it would be more prevalent this week. But, Im going to teach Thanksgiving next week instead because I like this PPT and my students have been asking me about Thanksgiving.

Thank you both. Totally saved my butt this week--bad cold sapped my planning energies.
You're welcome... and don't I only know how that feels: been sick too. Teaching without a voice is quite a challenge :)
Nice PDF researched and published by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian staff. It is not written at a beginner EFL level, but I like having the facts a little straighter in my own head... especially since I grew up in New England, and studied the pilgrim myths year after year in elementary school!

Summary: Native American people who first encountered the “pilgrims” at what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts play a major role in the imagination of American people today. Contemporary celebrations of the Thanksgiving holiday focus on the idea that the “first Thanksgiving” was a friendly gathering of two disparate groups—or even neighbors—who shared a meal and lived harmoniously. In actuality, the assembly of these people had much more to do with political alliances, diplomacy, and an effort at rarely achieved, temporary peaceful coexistence. Although Native American people have always given thanks for the world around them, the Thanksgiving celebrated today is more a combination of Puritan religious practices and the European festival called Harvest Home, which then grew to encompass Native foods.

It's also a great museum- see my blog post, Beauty Surrounds Us, for highlights on the exhibition by the same name.
This video by Dido, would be very appropriate for Thanksgiving. Here is a nice worksheet (just copy and paste - check out her other songsheets too!) Also, What a Wonderful World.
