When I'm 64 is a great song on the topic of aging/the future.  Here are some materials to use.

Get students to brainstorm 10 things they want to do / will do when they retire.

This post has some other ideas for this song.

The song - Thinking Out Loud is also a good one on the same topic.

Match and make sentences in the song!

When I'm Sixty Four (64)
~ The Beatles

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

See the "Imagine"  by John Lennon resources above in the rest of this discussion.

However, it is also an excellent song for a "rewrite" activity. Challenge students to rewrite the lyrics. You'll be amazed at what they come up with.

Inspire them with this version - Herman Kane, presidential aspirant and former pizza chain owner sings "Imagine There's No Pizza".  Lyrics attached and also song rewriting template.

Also see my own "Imagine" remake about education!

Here is an instrumental mp3 to use for the music for the song rewrite activity above.
