This Peter Reynold's book is one of my all time favorites - especially powerful for using to get students predicting "What happens next?" Just stop at certain points and ask students to predict.

Here is another ppt version of this wonderful story!
Great for prediction. Just read as a class and stop at any slide and ask students "What do you think will happen next?".
Also try the story writing summarizing activity attached.
