About

The Gift of the Magi by O'Henry has got to be one of the top stories to use for a Christmas lesson. It has everything.

And especially this abridged version for ELLs by VOA.  Download the video for offline use and the transcript. Also provided are worksheets and a full lesson plan for teaching the story.

Great idea is after, get the students retelling the story. Or advanced students writing the story in their own words but with a different ending or some changes ....   See the modern day example HERE - cool modern version of this classic.

Here are some powerpoint versions of the story that you can use in class.

Plus, a nice handy glossary for reference of the Gif Of The Magi.

View the presentation and book online.   Students can study the vocabulary.
