Hi Rasinta!

I hope the kindergarten lesson went well. I spent a whole weekend with Devon, the super simple guy - really nice fellow.

I'm just writing to mention that I put your power teaching videos in one place. better that way - they can all be found under one video. There are also some others already on our site too. Hope you don't mind. I find it better to just put videos that are VERY closely related, together under one video heading rather than scatter them around.

Just quickly , I'd focus on extensive reading. Read up about its theory and research, especially Rob Waring's site (who really is a passionate, dedicated educator) and also, Power of Reading by Kraschen. Richard Day too.

Get the students reading very early! This will empower them and allow them to interact and use English outside the classroom. Use the AtoZ readers in our library (look in Resources, under Reading , Leveled readers. They are some large zip files . A= low level Z high level....

More later but that is one real key to what you are talking about...

At 12:43am on September 11, 2009,

You too! Are you Muslim and participating in Ramadan? Is the school day the same too?

I am working with an Indonesian developing team for a new site and they will all be on Ramadan holiday for two weeks soon....

If anyone knows it would be Stovokor, Leave a message for her. She was the engine of Engishtips.... It is everywhere...can't open it. So a problem with their server or they've been taken off line (for maybe just copying everything, too much really and it was apt to get them in trouble.

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, busy with workshops all wekekend!!!! Take care,

Hi Rastina!

Don't give up on WMR. I still have trouble with it, but I play around and play around and usually, finally I can download the video. I haven't written instructions because I am confused about why it works one way sometimes, and another way another time... but I will try to 'get my head around it' and write something coherent soon.

Isn't Oktapodi the cutest? I will upload the video file here, and you should be able to download it with a click or two...

Hi Rastina,

Long time, no see! I posted this video on EFL, but want to make sure you see it- it is so cute : ) Maybe your students will like it? Maybe you are studying sea life? :D

See you soon,

Hi Rasinta,

Here it is- good luck!

Hi Rastina! I did manage to download the moive, and this is how I did it. First, open WM Recorder and make sure it is in ADA mode.

1. I used IE as my browser

2. I pasted this address into the address bar: http://www.eere.energy.gov/kids/video.swf

3. I clicked to go to that address, and then clicked on the record button in WM Recorder. It worked.

This is what the WMR window looked like when I hit record:

Remember that the movie will be in your WM Recordings file folder. On my computer, I go to My Documents>My Videos>WMR Recordings. The movie will be called Magic_30

The problem was WMR could not record from the url address that ended in html- I had to find the swf file. I'm not sure why! But the WMR How to Record section is useful (though it didn't tell me to do this, I just tried it. It did say that WMR cannot record swf files if they are not cached in the browser- don't understand how that works either, I just keep playing around until something works!)

Try to see if you can record it, and if you can't, let me know and I will write more detailed instructions. BUT, for the time being, I also attached the movie file to this comment, so you should be able to download that file and use it for your class next week anyway : ) - just click on the file, then when the dialogue box comes up, choose save file.

Hi Rasinta : ) I know I haven't answered your question, just given (maybe) a temporary solution. I'll work on a post on how to grab code and embed this weekend. Also, I'll work on explaining WM, but it's a tricky one. Just as I think I know how to make it work, I mess it up again! Why, why why?? I can't remember from one time to another what I did... but if I concentrate, I'll be able to do it.

I've got new questions too on the grab and embed front- like what to do with ico files... it's just going to take me a few days to write the post. Can you use the movie as it is, or do you need to download it onto your computer?

Let's see if this works, Rasinta- I grabbed the swf file from the url, and popped it into an embed code:
