The #1 .....(24/7, no cost teacher)

Number One ** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

Alice - the ultimate 27/7, free chat partner.

Without a doubt. She is intelligent, charming, looks great and even asks you questions. I added the drop boxes with "Questions" and "Responses" so students could… Continue

A World of 100

Interesting interactive designed like Lego land, in either Korean or English- fun to click around! A word of warning, these "facts" are not exact, and get passed around the internet.

For example, the money one doesn't quite make sense, and it seems the numbers have been transposed from the original 100 people, but it does make clear the reality that wealth is in the hands of a few.

In fact, I wouldn't use that card. I think some of the data has… Continue

Student Created Content - "It's about LEARNING not TEACHING!"

I would like to share one of the ideas that most invigorates and informs me as a teacher. The idea of "Student Created Content" or SCC. I borrow the term from UGC or UCC, "user generated/created content" that is the motor of Web 2.0 and the internet.

What is SCC?

It is an approach that tries to simplify the teaching/learning process and equalize the power relationship that…

The #1 (seating arrangement for students)

Number One ** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

It Depends!

Yes, got to say this. There are many options and as many factors for choosing the appropriate seating arrangement of students.

1) Size of the classroom / number of students

2) Your teaching methodology or the activities

3) What your students like!!! What your admin wants!!! (culture is important… Continue

Wallwisher - online post it notes for students and teachers

Wallwisher is a great way to get students writing and also a great evaluation tool.

Students or teachers can put up their own eNotes onto a bulletin board. As they describe, "an Online Notice Board Maker". Very simple to use and students love how attractive they can make it! Easy to register, 1 step process.

Take a look how this teacher used Wallwisher with her students - about a lesson on…

Using Stories to Teach Language

BookRix is a site that offers free ebooks to read and to write. Share-Pair is one strategy that I could see using with the books at this site. Two students could read the same book together, or a whole class. Buddy reading has many advantages. You can find the link at LibearyCorner. It is part of David Kapuler's great slide show 50 Sites in 60 minutes.

A Spring Message

Spring is here in this part of the world. Hope rings eternal. I call it "the filling". The world replenishes itself and begins the cycle of rebirth.

Whenever I'm in need of a metaphor for teaching, I always reach for that of "sowing seeds". The teacher is a person involved in planting the seeds of knowledge and bringing the human spirit to life. To be a teacher and a sower of seeds, you don't have to be a paid employee. Mothers are teachers, homeless…

I have to admit that I don't know how I feel about this.

This may be too unstructured for me, but TYT doesn't treat the idea of freeing up education a fair shake. I still point back to Daniel Quinn's model for decentralized…

The # 1 (way to display student work in class)

Number One ** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

A Classroom Clothes line!

Nothing beats it! If you have some string and some pins, you have it made!

That's what the morning papers say...........What a pity! My daughter was leaving today to Bristol to spend 10 days with a host family in a school interchange project. The thing is that the English students have already been here, in Madrid.

So, as a matter of fact, I am one of the tens of thousands who are still affected by the Icelandic volcano !!!! Take a look at its name, Eyjafjallajokull, it sounds scary.

The NYT informs that the cloud had extended as far south as Spain…
