The #1 .... (film for teaching)

Number One ** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

The Red Balloon

This 1956, French, silent, 34 min. film is a revelation. If you haven't seen it, do so! It highlights the simplicity by which children experience the world and tells the tale of a young boy in Paris who falls in love with a red balloon.

It has so many layers and can be… Continue

Just Improvise – A Quick Game

Sometimes my mind doesn’t allow me to enjoy the moment.

Last week a group of actors from a drama club visited our school and they performed with our students. They improvised in the school yard. They started with some warm ups and continued with a few short ‘games’.

While watching them, I caught my mind thinking how I could adapt them in my classes.

There were fabulous ideas and yesterday we tried one of them.

Level: intermediate and… Continue

I wish I'd known at 18 - Stephen Fry

Thanks to my PLN (personal learning network) for throwing this my way. A keeper. I'll watch over and over whenever I need nutrition for my soul. So much wisdom in 30 min. Stephen Fry tells us some important things, most that CAN be applied not only to life but also teaching. Like goals -- throw them out! They only lead you down a swampy path of me, me, me and let discover remain on the horizon and your growth too..... Take a watch -… Continue

60 Second Recap - Literary books for "digital types"

60 Second Recaps is a neat concept. You can find there most high school English literature - classic books like Animal Farm, Hamlet, To Kill a Mockingbird etc.... What's cool is that they are explained in 4-6 neat 60 second recap videos. Think Coles Notes for the digital native!

The recaps are very engaging. However, she speaks quite fast for second language speakers, so filter as necessary. Still, they are done in very… Continue

It's worth taking a look at ALL blogs

So I'm finally getting around to my recommendations for the "It's worth taking a look at these blogs" request. I've been intending to do this for awhile but just busy with many end of semester things (and still am). However, inspiration got hold of me and also because I DO think it such a great idea -- I forced myself to come up/out with something. Thank you to all who read my blog or mentioned my blog. Bless your soul.

Dogs Speaking PPT for Elementary Students

This is a PPT I made that actually got me a promotion into more R&D work. I deleted some content that was specific to the book and story associated with this lesson and tried to make it more general for anyone's use.

There are plenty of speaking opportunities here that you can stretch out as you like (have students work together in pairs to make sentences on paper and then speak, etc). Anyway, my kids really like the cute pictures and enjoy these kinds of PPTs a lot.

If… Continue

Old Spice Commercials--Learn English and something* about hygiene

This is a 25MB program that I made about some recent commercials that have been airing in the states.

I think many of you will appreciate this program because it'll give you the opportunity to address the issue of using deodorant, especially with Summer 2010 right around the corner, and do it in a humorous way.

Specifics:

There are five videos of which all can have captions turned on or off.

There is a memory monitor, because YOUR STUDENTS WILL WANT TO…

First post! Including some of my favorite worksheets/games.

So I've been a member of EFL Classroom 2.0 for a couple years now and have gotten some great material from this website. I've also made some of my own material....sometimes I will get an idea out of the blue, or other times I will see something and change it to suit the level and needs of my students.

Here are a couple of fun pair-work activities that get my students laughing, speaking, and having a good time.…

Casino win is a jackpot for science institute

A man who won 766 million won ($664,065) in a jackpot - the largest sum ever won in a

casino in Korea - has donated it to the Korea Advanced Institute of

Science and Technology, known as Kaist.

Ahn Seung-pil, a 60-year old businessman, hit it big at Kangwon Land in Gangwon, the only Korean

casino that allows Korean citizens to gamble.

The #1 ..... (prize to give students)

Number One ** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

Lining up / Leaving first

Yes indeed, it is as simple as that!

I've tried all the other things and yes, they work but they have their problems. Candy, suckers, chocolate rot teeth and also rot desire. You'll end up having to give more and more and more.... Books, souvenirs - they will kill your pocketbook. Stickers and points become meaningless… Continue

Music makes the world go sound.

\

I spent a good bottle of red wine and some time (and whatever you are told, don't believe 'em - time is cheap) watching 60 Minutes and this gem about how classical music and the spirit of Gustavo Dudamel is trying to bring " the system" to America and make despair into hope.

I'd like to say how this relates to education but first a confession, a coming clean. I love my parents but have always resented that I didn't learn a musical… Continue

Akinator

Akinator is a guessing game site

that is super simple and easy to use in the class or at home. Much like 20q.net which I've used very successfully

in class - the Akinator will guess whatever celebrity/fa mous person you

have chosen. Guess by asking questions. Very simple set up of responses

( Yes, Probably, Don't know, Probably not, No). He guessed everyone I

choose (Obama,… Continue
