Just had the spiciest bowl of ramen that i have ever had. Koreans like thier "Ramyen" spicey but that was out of control... it was good though. Ramen is a cheap ($2.50) and quick meal that you can get at a number of places within your average block.
I scolded some students for the first time today. I didnt really care for it and it really felt like talking to a walk. Actually it was talking to a wall for the one, the other one cried. This is part of my new intiative to get control of my classroom. the studets where reading comicbooks when they were supposed to be doing an exercise.
I am trying to create a classroom environment were it is completely unacceptable to not try. Too often the students that it is a little difficult for or that just dont care just zone out for an hour. Also too often students have learned that it is easier just to shutdown and stare at thier desks when I call on them or even ask them rudimentry questions like "what is your name".
I get frustrated because i know that they know this stuff, they just either A. Don't know/believe that they do or B. Just dont want to try. Granted a number of them are just that behind. Regardless I think I will makeit clear on the first day of class that "shutting down and turning off" are just not an option. If you doint understand or dont know then I will require you to say either "I dont know" or I dont understand". They will probably be the first things I teach them. I am even thinking of going so far as putting those phrases on a card and making thme tape them to thier desks.
