I have settled into my hostel in Seogwipo. Jeju Hikers Inn is just down the street from the German owned dive shop that I went out with yesterday. I urge all SCUBA inclined travelers in Jeju to stop by Big Blue 33
. Ralph is highly professional and his love for diving is apparent.
We had wide representation of the world's nations in our diving contingent
. A Canadian couple, one American (myself), an older Japanese man
, a Korean-German University student, an other teacher from England, and out German guide
. The dive site was this rock
off the cost of Seogwipo and it had a lot of traffic
. Not much coral, but I was rewarded with an alien landscape populated with strange bright blue and orange plants. There was also a current that had me doing some serious swimming.
Later I went out to Jungmun with the other divers and had dinner at a Western style sports bar call geckos. This place had some serious Fish and Chips. When the English diver and his English buddy joined me later they were also seriously impressed with the meal and it became a favorite topic for the rest of the night.
Later we hit the casino in the Lotte Hotel. It was immediately apparent that our scruffy westerner apperance was unwelcome amongst the Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, and other asian highrollers. After getting trounced at roullette, we made out exit, much to the relief of our hosts.
Unfortunately I had a few too many beers and woke up with a intense headache when it was time to head back down to the diveshop, so I took the better part of valor. Just as well I suspect as I need a break from the sun and I am just starting to get over my sunburn.
