About

Are you a committer (or a quitter)?

I'm busy making some life shattering, shaking changes.  Not easy to do so, especially when one gets older and offered so much "security".  However, I've always been one to follow Thoreau's dictum and "dance to the beat of my own drummer".  The only way I can survive, smile and keep sucking on the fruit that is life.

More about my changes later.  What I'd like to share today is something I came across while going through my old boxes of "stuff".  I came across a quiz I remember writing for a book I was scratching out, 10 or so years ago.  The book was about commitment and this little quiz really got me thinking.  Could it be that good teachers, teachers that last in the profession and who hang in there, thick or thin - could it be that these "committers" might be noted and selected for?  Could this ability to commit to a vocation be something important to our teaching profession?

Just a thought.  But here is the quiz to see if you are a "committer".  Check it out and tell me if you think the quality of being a "committer" is something important and linked to that of an expert teacher.

Some people are committers – they put themselves on the line and live openly, spontaneously, productively. They have the intuitive sense to flow with their inner energy and see things to the end. To them, the future is in their own hands. Are you a “committer”?   Answer the following questions and find out. (note your answers true or false)

it aside.                                          Totally True or  Not Really

Yourself. Then the future is all yours.

16-20:  you are a true, right through, committer. You are your own person, self-actualized and

trusting. You are able to step over that line and make things happen. To you there are no

problems, only solutions!
