About

Karaoke in your Classroom

We have LOADS of karaoke for use in the classroom here. See and get the player/songs through the links assembled below.

Karaoke is a great tool for any language teacher. It really helps with phonetic recognition (connecting text to speech - reading) and highly motivational. It also is adaptable and you can vary the speed, the context (pictures) , the presentation and even have students record.

The Karafun player is superb. Download it free HERE. Once installed, you have both A PLAYER and an EDITOR. Use the player to play files (.kfn) and the editor to make files. Simply run the player and play any of the thousands of songs I created and shared on our Karaoke page.  Also, more files shared by teachers in our Karaoke In The Classroom group.

See this presentation and watch how I make a file with; A) an mp3 B) a transcript/lyrics C) a photo (s) . It really isn't difficult! If it helps, here is a short How to make a Karafun Karaoke file (short).doc and a long How to make a Karaoke using Karafun.doc

If you are concerned about royalty free images and don't want to "google" - use Pics4Learning

On EFL Classroom's Karaoke page, you can download hundreds of pre-made karaoke files. Also see the ELT and TECH wiki where I have a Making a Karaoke page.

Also, there are many more places to get karaoke videos and learn about karaoke:

1. Discussions about Karaoke
2. Main Karaoke page
3. Karaoke video examples
4. Quick Karaoke
5. Kids Karaoke Korner
6. News articles in Karaoke
7. Elementary Songs for the Korean Textbook
8. Mixtube lyrics/songs
9. Go Sing player and songs
10. Karaoke in the classroom group

The Seti Teachers page reference above is having some issues and I am trying to turn a video that I got from You Tube into a .kfn file to use with Karafun. Is there anyway to post the video on how to do it here or somewhere that I can access it?

Hi Alex,

My apologizes. The SETI site is now unavailable (but I didn't delete it because others have embedded videos on their blogs/webpages which still stream from there). I've changed the link to refer to the ELT and Tech wiki Karaoke page. Get all the info. on making karaokes etc there - however, this page has most you need.

You can't turn a youtube video into a .kfn file directly. You have to make the kfn file using an mp3 + text + photos. You can then turn that into a video / .avi afterwards, if you wish. One thing to do is use Video 2 Mp3 to get the mp3 from the youtube video. Use that to build your karaoke .kfn. It actually makes for better learning content because some or most videos have "rolling" images that distract the learner from the text - which is where the focus should be.

If you need more help/suggestions, let me know what the youtube video is and what your lesson aims are and I or others can suggest some things.

Cheers,

David

David,
Thanks for the updated link, I was able to figure it out fairly quickly after watching it.

Thanks again!
Alex
