I was wondering what you all thought of learning designs pertaining to English language teaching? What are the ways in which you design your lessons to achieve better learning in your students?Continue

So, I followed instructions to build a moodle website on my laptop... but now I need to find a resource that will tell me how to transfer the moodle on my laptop to a school server or the internet. This might mean that I need to find a web host (well, I defo need a web host eventually, as I want to make my courses available to a wide community). I know the information is out there... it's all probably available on the moodle site, but if anyone here can give me some ideas and advice in basic English I would appreciate it.... so, any takers?

first thing to find out is what version of moodle is it? 1.9 or 2.0 . Moodle just made some very heft changes which substantially changed the architecture of how it works (it appears the same...).

second thing - why did you use your laptop to build the community? I'm just wondering but this amplifies the problems you'll have when you set it up for public use. Moodle is very database heavy and you can't just import it so easily - but you can with a little work.

third thing - a host. Yes, you have to host moodle. You won't be able to use some of the free moodle providers (that have ads) because you have your own built. So you'll have to get a public server. I've used bluehost for years without any problems (and have used many servers with BIG problems so that says a lot. Service support is second to none if problems come up). Just get a plan, Go to "Simple Scripts" and click the moodle button. Simple Scripts will prepare a nice moodle for you and send you details how to access the admin panel. After that, you'll have to "restore" through the admin features. Basically, you upload your moodle into this moodle and then open it and override whatever was first installed....'s community is great. I've become friends with a few people there over the years. (despite my voicing of the limitations moodle shouldn't have). There are links on my tutorial for moodle on the ELT and Tech wiki

Hope this helps for a start. Good luck!

If you use Blue Host ( as your web host you can download Moodle from there.  Then you could import your course there.
