Tim, my youngest, went back to University last week for his final year. He sent me this poem today, that he wrote for his poetry class. He told me it's a Shakespearean sonnet (4 quatrains and a couplet at the end). Good thing he mentioned that, as I wouldn't have known :)

"Words I Never Said"

Staring through this window pane,
in a corner of the room.
In this scheduled monotony of life,
all I see is you.

that sleek hourglass body,
from head-to-toe divine,
your smile makes time stand still
and break whenever you pass by.

But these thoughts float on;
their function to deceive,
because sadly there is no "Us",
in this reality.

Your ignorance to my affection keeps me starved like the living dead,
I wish I knew what to do, with these words I never said.

Ah! This world would be unsupportable without unrequited love! (and may I ask what is requite?)

Great stuff and bodes well for the future - he's got a sense of tension and how words should weave around a central idea. I'll have to post one of my own Shakespearean sonnets - they make for good practice of this fine art....

Poetry is much better than war as a recovery from a broken heart!  Keep him motivated Ellen.
