One of the most under noted things about our community EFL Classroom 2.0 is the fact it has no ads. I love this fact (and perhaps its why I now live in a city without advertisements!).
Ads, you know, those subtle online videos/pictures, links that seem to be everywhere and which slyly ask us to click them. They aren't here, you can browse and use our community free of this subterfuge. We won't have it and never have.
I've firmly believed from the start 8 years ago that this community was a classroom, a school. In fact it's right there in our name. A place of learning. Not a place to make $, not a place to lie (and ads on websites these days are really lies - if you know how they work, they beckon like a beautiful woman but are really soft pornography). Also not a place to create a following and ELT celebrity teacher status (I mention this because I've been seeing this happening and really do protest this). This community is a place for teachers to get what will help them in class - period. Also a safe place their students may visit. So I hope you enjoy the fact there is and will never be ads here.
An example of ads on other blogs, communities
Now while on this topic, I'll note I'm rethinking the structure of the community. To that end there will be changes that I believe everyone will be happy about. In fact those changes are partially in place. Can you guess what is different about the community now?
I'll have a larger announcement in our newsletter out next month. The whole edition will focus on the changes but please take a guess! Again, trying to give teachers the bacon they can take home.... that's always been my role. One grunt teacher understanding other "grunt" teachers. We are in the trenches together. Each day, every day, is May Day.
