About

Teaching as a vocation

More and more, I see a clear line between two camps of teachers. Those that view teaching as a profession, a way to make a living, what happens Mon-Fri. and between classroom walls, 8 to 4 (or chose your time) and those that view teaching as a vocation, a way of life, a 24/7, always on, way of being.

I don't think either is good or bad. They both have value and at the end of the day, help students. Plus, there is for sure, a gradient, teachers existing between the two.

Myself, got to thinking of this during my daily meditation. Thinking about my favorite Martin Luther King Jr. speech and what it means for me as a teacher.  Listen to it below.  For me, I started thinking teaching was a vacation and now view it as part of me, a vocation.  And the beauty of that is that I can serve. As I say so often, in service "I keep what I give" and am so more for it.
