The #1 ..... (non-academic speech about education)

Number One** Not your ordinary endless list - just what's number 1. Just the BEST.

Bill Cosby's Carnegie Mellon Commencement Address.

Here it is below. It is beyond comment. Just listen. Perfect delivery, even students of higher levels can follow and understand. The message is immortal and I listen to this over and over, whenever I need the "will to carry on". Inspiring. Please tell us what it means to you.

Love the real you and you are on the right way - a wonderful message - although it is sometimes very difficult to comply it. There are moments when you act in a way you cannot admire yourself for; you can also feel quite selfish doing things regardless what other people say. I think there is only a tiny line between the real love/faith in yourself and an excuse for one's behaviour which is not always right. To recognize what is true and real a man must be very honest to oneself and very very brave... All those sediments and habits blind the view.
I appreciate Mr. Cosby, because I can see a guy who has found this truth by himself, experienced it and tries to send it along. This was a wonderful example how to learn something not only from books (where you can find this advise) but from a real man:-)
PS: I also liked David's presentation with that girl throwing the asters to the sea - it also had the power to hit me, that now I finally really feel the meaning of "to make a difference"

Cosby received an MA and a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts. These were earned degrees.
He wrote a dissertation, "An Integration of the Visual Media Via 'Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids' Into the Elementary School Curriculum as a Teaching Aid and Vehicle to Achieve Increased Learning", as partial fulfillment of obtaining his 1976 doctorate in education.
In addition, he has been awarded numerous honorary degrees including a doctorate from Yale.
Cosby certainly is an academic and this speech certainly can be considered an academic speech.
