I'd like to share in this forum and would like others to share, short stories that might apply to education / teaching and that will inspire. I believe stories and a narrative are powerful, whether…Continue
Hey everyone!I am new to the forum and am curious how you feel learning communities benefit educators when it comes to developing a collective responsibility as educators. Do you feel a forum like…Continue
I hope you are getting ready for some Xmas cheer and downtime!
I'm just writing about the Training page on Kotesol. Someone wrote me and I check that it is indeed mentioning the page I organized for teaching training. Great! However, it is pointing to EFL Classroom and I would never want a teacher to hesitate because it asks for registration. So can you change it to refer to the page at Seti Teachers - my institute's site that I put up? It is fully public and there won't be this problem. http://setiteachers.ning.com/page/teacher-training
Had a great weekend (but wayyyyy too many beers) in Cheonan. Well attended workshops and lots of shop talk. Invigorating for me as a teacher - the different perspectives.
Members will get it free for a short time, 'til TEFList is up. Soon, I'll have it nice and searchable. Search isn't done yet but click the feeds for the moment.... I'll be adding a few more feeds in the next few days of jobs from journals that I'll input once or twice a week onto a page and feed there too...
Good to see you at the conference. Hope your presentations went well. I didn't make Sunday - have a bummed up ankle and after all day Sat. it was kaput. Improvement IMO on last years but also I have my quibbles. At least Nunan gave me a great spark for a new article about ELT :)
Anyways, I'd really appreciate your advice about this new way of searching tags on Ning. Fully outside Ning so won't be affected by any of their assinine changes. Check it out here.
I've learned a lot about the power of rss through this project. I'll be making a small version for a textbox on Ning shortly. But this fits a nice 2/3 page on ning. The tags that appear when you type are suggestions which the creator can input. However, it searches all tags.
I'm thinking once I get documentation and a demo - selling it for $30. Cost me about $400 plus my time (days!). Let me know if you have any suggestions.......
Cheers, enjoy the week ahead,
PS. Also working on a fully searchable jobs feed. I have made rss of all the major jobs feeds for ELT (about 32). That's my next project. So teachers won't have to run around willy nilly looking. It will be an adaptation of my present twitter - http://twitter.com/eltjobs
thanks for looking. I did finally find something to use - though not the best. I actually ended up using Korean celebrities speaking English! They enjoyed comparing their assessments and rubrics grading these Koreans...
One thing - I talked to Phil Owen about the Int. Conf. while in Cheongju (it was a great time - Tom Farrell was a wonderful speaker and he shared many a fantastic story from Korea's early years of teaching...). Phil wants to set up some social networking for the Int. Conf. I'm mulling it over what might work for Drupal. However, I think at the end of the day it might be more powerful to just do something similar to what Learning 2.0 does on Ning. What's your opinion about that? Forum integrated with the drupal site or Ning or another tool?
I am glad they see the value in this - if just to create community and continuity for the conference...
Joshua, no real age range but the ability should be from high beginner to intermediate...thereabouts, even high intermediate. Just anything that is short enough but has some qualitative aspect to it. I'd like Korean teachers to assess some Korean students in speaking but the only audio I have is really of too high a level to be useful.
I need some help, if you can ... I'm looking for some lower/intermediate level samples of Korean students speaking. I scoured voxopop and voicethread and came up with nothing too appropriate. Doesn't have to be anything long but if you have something, appreciated if you can send me a link....
Thanks for the message and invite (and for the comment on my blog). Would love to join, but don't have any presentations ready at all to put on a list at the moment (!) as I've always done CPD in my company or longer courses like the 30 hour classroom language course I've been working on recently. My last conference presentation about testing and reviewing new materials, I got six people and four of them actually wanted to know how to become TEFL writers, so won't be doing that one again... Soon as I've got one or two I'll join up like a shot though
Susan (from Israel) is on sabbatical but building a few Ning sites. She says she will do it shortly.... If you want the answer too - when she makes the changes to the css, take a peak.... admin for the site is email@example.com / projectpeace
