After teaching EFL elementary here in Israel for 10 years, and needing a change, I moved into ICT about 5 years ago. This year I will be working with a wonderful teacher to build a combined EFL/ICT program for our grades 5 and 6. And why all the web20 logos in my About Me pic (click on about me in the widget to see what I mean) - Web20 opens up so many opportunities which hopefully we will be able to implement in order to improve and enhance the learning experience.

JUTECHT on The Value of Online Presence

Posted on December 5, 2007 at 4:35am 1 Comment

Just read an interesting blogpost by JUtecht "The Thinking Stick"on the value of your online presence, social networking skills and your actual network to your employer ie school and education authority.

" when you are hired to work for a school, you are not the only one working for that school but you bring your social network to that school too, and that social network, that social presence is working for the school as…

2 programs (downloads) for elementary students

Posted on October 31, 2007 at 7:15pm 2 Comments

Not web2.0 but definitely EFL. 2 programs that my students have enjoyed in the past -

Talkany - very lightweight text to speech program (375kb) which reads out any English or Spanish text pasted in. The user can choose from different fun voices and speeds, such as:

whisper, monotone, robot, boy singing, old woman ... and many more.

There is no need to install the program, simply run it from the link, exellent for kids who need that extra support when…

Ning in the Elementary EFL Classroom

Hi everyone, long time no see!

This is a crosspost from my new blog http://efl20.blogspot.com

I've been so sidetracked for the last couple of months, translating the Ning platform to Hebrew, setting up a network for my EFL students and kicking off "Edureshet" a social network for Israeli educators (reached 50 members yesterday -…

Happy New Year!

Posted on August 30, 2007 at 11:13pm 2 Comments

In the Jewish Faith the New Year falls either in September or October, the date this year is Sept 12th. The reason for the changing date is that the Hebrew Calendar is based both on the moon and solar cycles, similar to the Chinese calendar. The Greeting most commonly used among British Jews, is "Happy New Year, and Well Over The Fast", reminding us of the upcoming fast on the "Day of Atonement".

When I taught EFL, this was an exellent opportunity to learn about other cultures and…

Hi Susan

Back in Israel after 6yrs teaching in Korea.  Can you suggest some 5th grade songs for Israeli kids.  It seems their taste is different.  Hope to hear from you

Shalom Susan,

I hope this finds you well. I need your "expertise"! I hope you don't mind....

I'm looking for a tag cloud for our main page. Ning doesn't offer anything as far as I can tell and I've tried a few other things without any usefulness. Do you have anything to recommend off the top of your head? Just want to use the tags we have here or we can start anew and retag with a specific tag...

Cheers and thanks in advance..,

Hi Susan

I have just joined here. I am the founder and director of the Kindersite Project http://www.kindersite.org . I am also a partner in 10 European Union funded projects mainly within languages.

You can call me on 0506 369899 as I would like to understand what you are involved in further.

Hi! So many neighbors joined in recently! How did it happen? Perhaps I should go to one of these meetings too?? ;-)
At 11:16am on June 1, 2008,
Hi Susan,

Have are you doing? I hope fine! The weather has to be good, so that is a start.

I"m writing because as usual, you probably are in the loop...... We got a lot of members from Israel this weekend. Great! But was there a conference or did you give us some promotion?

It also got me thinking again about creating regional groups. I will be putting up instant online personal messaging. You can find members from the map, it will show who is online. Also of course, the who's online box. but this is one step to make the site more "regional" friendly. But I'm torn. I really don't want things to become "regional" and prefer a place where people meet based on interest , not nationality.

What's your feeling about having groups based on nationality? wondering....

I"ll also be hosting the next EFL / ESL / ELL carnival and hope you'll contribute. I'm starting to offer the bloggers here , their own public pages -- which should help promotion and get the word out about the few great bloggers we have.

Cheers, more later, as always,

At 7:10am on April 14, 2008,
Shalom David,
How are you?
Thanks for leaving a message! The ideas you mention here sound fantastic, I'll write about them on edureshet, once I finish my Passover cleaning.

I agree about the new events feature, shame the Notes feature isn't the wiki I've been waiting for.

All the best
At 4:47am on April 14, 2008,
Shalom Susan!

I saw your photo and that you might have dropped by....wanted just to say hello and relate a couple things.

I am trying to start a voice chat place. Fully secure and it really is needed - a place for speaking which is about learning English. The technology has finally arrived for this and hope you'll let other learners know about our EFL voice Chat. I'll be posting a thread and scheduled times shortly but it is available for all members through this portal 24/7.

I'm also dabbling in a video oriented site using youtube content. More later but it looks promising and hopefully the guys in the States will have a super model "alpha" up shortly. EFL classroom members will have access to the pilot for evaluation purposes.

Hope all is well. Please add to our calendar if you come across any important dates. I think it is a smart addition by Ning although it has a few wrinkles.......

Cheers and hope you are enjoying the fine weather. Must be gorgeous your way!

Hi Susan,

I hope the new year is going well! I see you are putting up some presentations on myplicks, i'll be loading up a few more shortly.

But I have a question -- you mentioned a site a long time ago that allowed you to make a presentation of all your websites. I'm searching for that site but can't find it. If you can send me a link, much appreciated. I'm desperate for a nice way to make a presentation about essential EFL Classroom 2.0 tools......HELP! (as usual)
