Domino_s® Pizza Turnaround

This "authentic" video offers a lot of material for teachers. I'll be suggesting a lot you can do with it below. One quick idea is to brainstorm descriptive vocabulary (awful, rubbery, tasteless etc) and have the students rate the pizza in their own neighborhood/city. Complain!

How would you use it? Let's here your ideas about teaching "pizza"!

This is a classic song for teaching about pizza! This song booklet has the lyrics for that song and others within... Great song for a pizza party! I am a pizza and other lyrics.pdf

Another idea for teaching about pizza is to make one! Watch a "how to" video and have students list the ingredients, utensils and steps. Pause during the 2nd listening - she speaks fast! Then take up. Here is a handy worksheet for this... pizza making

Ordering pizza is fun! Students can sit back to back like they are telephoning and practice ordering. Here's a nice menu you can use. Also, this authentic "joke" radio program is rich in pizza ordering language! pizza menu

Here is the "I Am A Pizza" in karaoke (I knew I had it around somewhere!). Download the player on our karaoke page to use with the player. iamapizza.kfn

I think US kids would love this lesson! So much in EFL crosses over into the regular elementary classroom- developing vocabulary & speaking skills, how to order over the phone (it's a bit daunting to order pizza!), working with money, neighborhood awareness and giving/following directions (how to get around)... lots of overlap.

Now we have to actually try the new Domino's pizza... Did they really make a better quality pizza, or is it a BS campaign?

After Domino's and Burger King, I hope we can have some fun with healthier eating! Maybe growing vegetables and then cooking with them? Field trip to the berry fields or fruit orchards and then making pie? How about fishing? That would be a class adventure! (I'm not baiting hooks, clubbing or gutting fish!!)

Oh, go to a diary farm and milk cows! Or goats, just to be safe with the little ones : ) (Cows look like they kick hard!) Have to be a small family farm, though.. the big ones are so automated, there's not much a kid (or teacher) can do.

Ellen,

You've come under the magical influence of the better Obama! But yeah, if possible, throw some aspect of health in there. Maybe how to make a "healthy" pizza? Or food groups?
