I was thinking today how teachers might use Google logos to teach and contextualize learning. Found this nice presentation. I'll be uploading some materials shortly here - logos teachers could use for teaching vocabulary/language.
Doodle 4 Google is a K-12 competition held every year. Winner this May. Your students can participate!

Here is the presentation I came up with. Beats this one (I think). You be the judge. Use the powerpoint or flash and quiz your students, see how they do! A great way to review holidays around the world.

guessthegoogle.swf and Google Doodle logos.ppt

Guess the Google full screen!

How can that logo accommodate so much? It's amazing. A study in adorable creativity, too. If only it could be about something besides the google brand!

But there you have it. Sure is cute.

I forgot to say... I do like your presentation best... and I appreciate the leg work/gathering it takes to produce it! I'm wondering how to use it as an art/design activity... maybe have students use their names as the basic logo? Or decide on a class logo that could be designed around, or even a word, like freedom?

Submissions for the contest are closed for this year, but if you want to mess around with the logo, here is the PDF google hands out with 5 different styles ready to be "doodled"

Also, if you'd like to try designing logos with different words/meanings, Book Antiqua is a font available on most computers that approximates the "Google" font... which is actually called Catull and costs $99...

Also, an online google logo generator that is ok.... won't do capital letters at the moment.

Here, Dennis Hwang who "doodles" for Google and has been making their videos for years - shows how he does it! Really cool and interesting. (He's Korean!).
